ISO published an updated Dublin Core standard in 2017. ISO 15836-1:2017 (Part 1) is the second edition of the Dublin Core Element Set standarddublincore.org, superseding the 2003 version. It includes minor corrections and aligns the definitions of the 15 core elements with the DCMI Metadata Terms as maintained by the DCMI Usage Board. This update ensured the ISO standard remained current with how Dublin Core elements were actually being used and understood in modern implementations (e.g., clarifying terms per DCMI’s 2012 reference).
