IETF RFC 5791 (HTML embedding obsolete)
2010, IETF published
In February 2010, IETF published RFC 5791, officially declaring the old RFC 2731 (Dublin Core in HTML) obsoletedatatracker.ietf.org. The RFC notes that further development of HTML metadata guidelines had moved to DCMI, specifically referencing DCMI’s 2008 recommendation on embedding DC in HTML/XHTMLdatatracker.ietf.org. This shift signaled that maintenance of Dublin Core encoding practices was now under DCMI’s purview, aligning with the rise of HTML5 and RDFa (and the declining use of the profile attribute).
