Open Archives Initiative (OAI-PMH) adopts DC
worldwide, as protocols
The Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting (OAI-PMH) 2.0 was released in 2002 with Dublin Core as its baseline metadata format. All OAI-PMH data providers are required to support unqualified Dublin Core (metadata prefix oai_dc) for harvested recordsopenarchives.org. This made Dublin Core the lingua franca of metadata in institutional repositories and digital archives worldwide, as protocols like arXiv, DSpace, and others used OAI-PMH for interoperability.
